Cat Island is a barrier island off the Gulf Coast of the United States. The island came by its name. When the Spanish Explorers thought the raccoons on the island were cats.
The island is located off the coast of Long Beach, Mississippi about seven miles. It has some great fishing during the month of January there is an abundance of redfish and speckled trout. The waters around the island are clear , even though the Gulf of Mexico is muddy. Part of Cat Island belongs to the federal government the rest is privately owned.. The bayous and marshes on the island are inhabited by alligators and is also a refuge to migratory birds. The sand beaches on the island are very nice for relaxing in the sun. There are also dense forest on the island and some live oaks. You can get to the island by private boat as it is only 7 miles offshore for a relaxing getaway visit the island.
