Pago Pago

The island of Pago Pago just the name makes the island sound like a exotic and mysterious place and it probably is too many people. Actually it is the capital of American Samoa with a population of 11,000 people. Its primary business of course is tourism but they also have a thriving tuna industry there also.

If you want to celebrate New Year's in Pago Pago you will have the distinction of being in the city that is the last one in the world to welcome it in. The island is made up of many small villages and towns with the main employment being tuna canneries.

If you are an adventurous person you might want to climb the cliffs of Mt. Alava which plunge straight down into the sea. A climb to the summit of the mountain will give you a great panoramic view of the harbor and the town. The island is also the home of StarKist tuna and there is a huge statue of Charlie the tuna in front of the factory.

So while planning your honeymoon you might consider Pago Pago as a destination. I am sure you would enjoy yourself on their beautiful beaches. And enjoy the charm of this mysterious and exotic island.
